hobby farm

This is the third day of working!

I planted some vegetables and herbs at the field. I hope they grow well.

I realized there are not so many weeds here even though they don’t put black plastic sheets.

A farmer I worked before here uses plastics sheets to cover the soil but there were many weeds under it. The kind of weeds is different. I don’t find the same weeds here tho. Maybe that’s why.

One of reason she told me that she puts wood chips on the soil. Once the vegetables get high, it cover soil so there’s less chance to survive the weeds. I prefer not to use plastic so this is good idea for me :)

(Actually my neibour farmer in japan also don’t use plastic cover at all. But there were few weeds.)

I also think this farm’s soil is very nice because I saw many warms! I know warms live in good soil. I saw them in the soil with weeds but no warms at a field in Tromsø. Maybe it’s just too cold there at that time.

They told me a bit about situation of farmers in Norway. In their opinion, over 90% of farms are hobby farm. Rich people, especially after retirement, started to have a big field and grow vegetables mainly as a hobby. And they sell those at low price. Maybe don’t grow in ecological way.

Then full time farmers have a problem. Because they need to earn for living. But someone sell vegetables at low cost, full time farmers’ vegetables would be too expensive.

My host feel that farmers deserve to get more money. We don’t truly understand how they work hard and how they are important for our lives and health.

Well, compare to japan, Norway is better than us as long as they grow vegetables up by themselves. Don’t  inport too much. In my opinion.

This is very interesting news for me. Norway is eco-friendly country so I thought many people are care about ecology. people buy ecological or organic foods even thought it’s expensive. But they have a same problem like in japan. People don’t know the true value of money and foods.

I think I heard more interesting story... but it’s gone. Out of my brain...

I’m very tired today. I don’t work so much though, I took a nap for 3 hours. I had a dream just before the time I must wake up. I was thinking to eat a cinnamon roll before going back to work while dreaming. Then I woke up and realized that I don’t have a cinnamon roll!! It existed only in my dream...

I woke up for a cinnamon roll tho... so disappointed. In the afternoon, we collected grass at a big field. I guess it took for 2 hours... tough. Two boys who drove a trukter said there’s another field where they just finished cut grasses. He asked us if we want to collect them too.

No thanks!!

I was so tired but the view from field was amazing.

Love but hate mosquitoes...

This morning I worked and fought with mosquitoes meanwhile. It’s cloudy in the morning so terrible horrible number of mosquitoes. I can cover my body but can’t cover my face!! Aww...!

今日も青い空が美しい。

朝はモスキートと戦いながら、セロリと豆を植えたよ。モスキートっていうか、超小さい小虫。養蜂家の人が使う顔をカバーするやつがあったんだけど、あいつら小さすぎてすり抜けてくる。

そうするとさ…カバーするやつで顔を覆ってるから、あいつら顔周りにホールドされるわけよね。ネットの中が、もう、小虫パラダイス。

かゆい。たまになんか痛い。

最悪だったね。曇りで涼しいラッキーと思ったら、小虫パラダイスだもんね。晴れてると出てこないんだよ、やつら。

それからお昼ご飯のあとは、また夜まで休憩。サイトのお勧め本でも更新しようかと思ったら、どうやら疲れが溜まってるのか、気付いたら3時間寝てた。

夢の中で、起きなきゃ〜仕事行かなきゃ〜でもその前にちょっと何か食べたい〜と思ったの。そうだシナモンロール食べてから行こう〜と思って、起きた時に気づいた。

シナモンロールなんて、ここにないじゃん！

がーん！ショック！シナモンロール食べるために起きたのに！仕方ないから、ホスト手作りのパンを食べて、ご近所さんちへ。

芝刈り後の芝をくれるっていうから、集めに。これがまた大変でねえ…。A型の几帳面さを発揮して、ちまちまやってたら、全然終わらねえ。

そのあとはお手本を見せてもらって豪快に！でも意外と腕の力がいるし、何より2時間もかき集めてたら手の皮むけちゃって。じんじんするし！なんてこったよ。たったこれだけの仕事でも、こんなに大変なんだね。

こんな感じのフィールドが全部で３つ。

この草を山羊の餌にするらしいんだけど、重労働すぎるから、次からは飼料を買おうと思ったらしい。

でも眺めが素晴らしくて、楽しかった！キツツキの音も聞こえてきて、あー自然に囲まれてるなーって思ったよ。それと同時に、私は農家にはなれないって思ったよ。毎日一回は思ってる。笑  ほんとに農家すごいわ。

それから、毎日一回は、社会に疲れた若者手伝えって思ってる。引きこもるぐらいなら、農家さん手伝った方が何倍も良いのに！疲れる？あまったれるんじゃねー！

身体を動かして、美味しいご飯食べて、疲れてるから夜はぐっすり眠る！どんなに些細なことでも手伝えば、農家さんはありがとうとお礼を言ってくれる！そうすると、農家さんの大変さも分かるし、人の役に立てたっていう実感も湧く！いい事づくしだぜ！

これはホストの統計による話なんだけど、ノルウェーの農家は90%以上が、趣味なんだって。特に定年退職した人や、お金持ちが広大な敷地を買ってやってる人が多いらしい。オスロ近くの農業用の土地は恐ろしく高いんだって。

趣味でやってるから、エコなんて気にしてない人もいる。価格も気にしない。低めに設定しちゃう。

そうすると、農業一本で仕事してる人たちが、大変になっちゃう。みんなが価格を下げるから、下げざるを得ない。エコでオーガニックに気を使って、毎日朝から晩まで働いて、やっと育てた野菜なのに。野菜の価値が下がってしまう。

お世話になってる農家さんは、とても自分たちの働きに見合った金額ではないって。安すぎるって言ってたよ。でもそうじゃないと売れない。

ああ。日本と同じや。というか世界中どこでも同じや。いつだって農家さんは、汗水流して働いてるのに、一番低い立場だと思われてる。

エコ大国のノルウェーでさえ、同じなんだ。つくづく思うけど、環境保護に力を入れてるのは政府であって、人々の日常の中では、そこまでエコが浸透してるように感じない。

デンマークではスーパーに行くと、エコやオーガニック商品には、値札のとなりに"エコ"ってシールがあるから、わかりやすかった。もノルウェーじゃ見たことない。割引の”tilbud”ぐらい笑

私の見方が足りないのも十分にあると思うけど。エコヴィレッジや、エコツーリズムにも力を入れてたりするから、全体で見れば、すごく環境保護に力を入れてるんだけどね！

それにしても金持ちの娯楽としての農業か…なんだかねえ。本当の価値ってなんだろうね。

ちなみに、お手伝いしてると、1日に１回は自分にがっかりもしているw なぜなら、自分で思う以上に行動がとろすぎて😂 もっとテキパキ行動して、助けたいのに！そして、助かったよありがとうって褒められたいのに！笑
